When a bunny gets taken by a hawk right before a photoshoot...to share or not to share? But it really did happen and we were so shocked and caught off guard that we couldn’t help ourselves. Haha!
Our day was packed with photo sessions until a cancellation gave us a 2-hour break. We decided to get a treat and, during that time, found a lost dog trying to return home (the dog was fine, just old and annoyed it wasn't let back in after escaping). Then we got a Jamba Juice (can you believe the prices have doubled since back in the day?!) and headed to our next photoshoot at Heritage Orchard near the Saratoga Library in the Bay Area of Northern California.
We were relaxing in the car, enjoying our smoothies, when we noticed a van arrive. An older man stepped out, took a wire cage, and released a small bunny. We found it quite strange and were discussing possible reasons for why the bunny was in his care. As the man drove away, a hawk suddenly swooped down and captured the bunny for its next meal. We stood outside, mouths agape, in complete shock at what transpired within 30 seconds of the bunny's release. It was truly sad to witness, yet - cue the Lion King song - It's the Circle of Life!!!!
Our high school grad arrived while we were still in bewilderment and couldn’t help but share what happened which made for a greeeaaaatttttt start to our photoshoot. Hear the sarcasm? But she was such a trooper and it didn’t phase her. Even better, we think it was a great conversation starter and ice breaker, haha! ;-)
We found some beautiful spots at the orchard with tall wildflowers growing and were able to transform this small Library Orchard into a Secret Garden/Enchanted Forest.
This grad followed directions well and did an amazing job with placing her graceful hands in correct poses. We had taken her sister’s grad photos two years prior and were so stoked we got asked to take her sister's photos! (We love being in our client’s lives and seeing all the different seasons and celebrations they have!)
There were still a few flowers left on some of the orchard trees and we were able to capture some dreamy bloom portraits. The light glowing through the white blossoms just make for an epic photo.
Best times for bloom sessions are mid-February and early March so if you're gunning for a spring bloom session, keep that in mind!
We wish all the best to this high school grad and new journey that awaits her in life!
