THEIR PROPOSAL STORY
"Kevin and Léa were in SoCal for a weekend at a church event and visiting family and friends. Kevin knew that this was going to be a weekend full of discussions about the future - so he wanted to pop the question at the end of their trip. Out of symbolism, he wanted to show Léa that despite the many discussions and uncertainties of the future, he would be right by her side in all of it. On their way back to the Bay Area (along the scenic coast of Highway 1), they stopped by San Simeon for what Léa thought was a quick lunch picnic by the beach. Kevin initially wanted to propose while they were having the picnic, but there were too many older shirtless men at the beach (just wasn't the vibe he was going for lol) so to re-strategize he then decided to ask her to walk along the nearby pier - which then led to an inner fear that he would drop the ring and it would fall through cracks of the pier slats and into the sea. He still did his best to maintain his composure externally. When he found a good spot, he decided to read the 12-stanza poem he wrote for her. The poem talks about how life is a story written by God and how their love story is, also, written by Him. The last line of the poem ended with "Léa, will you marry me?" As he read the last line, he got down on one knee - and successfully put the ring on her finger (without falling into the depths of the sea). She said yes, and he later surprised her with her family waiting at their house to celebrate with them."
To say that this session was an adventure is an understatement! When this sweet couple hired us for their wedding, we planned their engagement session for January. Having a small window of time in getting their photos taken while also knowing California weather can be pretty fickle, we knew there would be a lot of risk.
Our original location plan was a big field but getting closer to their date, we knew we needed to have a plan B. Due to rain, we changed the date to a couple days later with our fingers crossed praying for some good weather!
Sure enough, MORE rain was scheduled. Finally, we asked them “You guys willing to be adventurous?” We pivoted to having an urban session at Santana Row and can we just say #WORTH IT?!
Because it was overcast and rainy, Santana Row had their twinkle lights on in the afternoon giving all the romantic little Italy vibes! We came prepared with clear umbrellas which added such a cute element to these photos!
A little after we began our session, the rain cleared up a bit and we were able to get some outside photos without getting too wet. We found some pretty unique spots around Santana Row and definitely will put this location as a future spot!
When the couple told us their wedding will be a blending of their cultures and the future bride being French, we thought it would be cute to include a macaroon ring photo.
We went to Cocola Bakery (where they have some pretty yummy treats BTW) and captured a sweet, intimate cafe shoot while they chatted and sipped on their tea.
FUN FACT: We didn’t know this prior to their session but they mentioned that this location had special meaning to them. How crazy we ended up taking their engagement photos here!?
Seriously, this session was so fun even amidst all the rain and location and date changes. It felt like we were all hanging out and getting to know each other and we’re so excited for the wedding at the end of Spring!
KIND WORDS:
It was so fun meeting you guys! Thanks for taking our pictures and making it fun. We love them! Thank you so much. We can't wait to see what you guys do with our wedding pictures!
